Knysna - today

Knysna is regarded as one of the most attractive residential areas and holiday destinations in the whole of South Africa. The natural beauty of the landscape, a moderate climate, low crime and a laid back way of life are attracting more and more people.
In spite of big differences in life style and income the coexistence of the different population groups functions without problems. The greatest part of the population is made up by the Coloureds, whose mother tongue is Afrikaans. The second largest group are the Black South Africans, of which most in this region belong to the Xhosa tribe.

Businesses are still predominantly led by the smallest part of the population, the Whites. Many of them commute between Knysna and Johannesburg. In total Knysna at present has a population of approximately 50 000 inhabitants.

For tourists Knysna is one of the most interesting travel destinations in the whole region - especially if you would like to spend a couple of quiet and relaxing days and not continuously live from your suitcase. A variety of leisure activities, excellent, challenging golfing, scores of restaurants, the largest and most interesting private art gallery in the Cape, wide, clean and mostly almost deserted beaches, the opportunity to stroll through the streets without any worries: all these are things which Knysna, the idyllic Pearl of the Garden Route offers you.
